We believe construction has a vital role to play in reducing environmental impact and creating buildings that are fit for the future.

Our Green Team brings together colleagues from across Knight Harwood to help drive environmental improvement throughout the business. Representing a range of disciplines and experience levels, the team provides a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Meeting regularly, the Green Team identifies opportunities to reduce our environmental impact and promote more sustainable behaviours across the organisation. From reducing single-use plastics and lowering carbon emissions to increasing awareness and engagement among our people, the group plays an important role in embedding sustainability into our culture and supporting our continual environmental improvement.
From refurbishment and adaptive reuse projects that retain valuable embodied carbon, to responsible material selection and efficient site operations, we continually look for opportunities to reduce the environmental footprint of our work. We work closely with clients and design teams to support the achievement of the sustainability objectives across our projects.
To ensure sustainability remains a priority throughout delivery, each project has a dedicated Sustainability Champion responsible for driving initiatives, monitoring performance and promoting best practice. We track key environmental metrics including carbon, waste, energy, water and transport.

Our supply chain plays a vital role in helping us deliver projects responsibly and sustainably. We work closely with our subcontractors and suppliers from the outset of every project to ensure environmental objectives are embedded within site operations and carried through to project completion.
Before commencing work, all operatives receive a comprehensive site induction covering not only health and safety requirements, but also the environmental standards, processes and expectations specific to the project. We expect all members of our supply chain to align with current legislation and recognised best practice. From responsible waste management and resource efficiency to sustainable sourcing and material traceability, our requirements are integrated into the whole project lifecycle.
We are committed to creating positive economic and social outcomes in the communities where we work. Our Local Sourcing Policy defines our intention to, where possible, use goods, suppliers and labour which are local to our construction sites.
Working closely with clients, community partners, educational organisations and our supply chain, we create opportunities for employment, apprenticeships, work experience placements and skills development. By promoting local procurement and supporting initiatives aligned with the principles of the Social Value Act, we help ensure our projects leave a lasting legacy, benefiting both local people and the wider community long after construction is complete.
